Purple Weekends
Purple Saturdays and Sundays are community events held at local places of worship across the country to promote awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. We recognize that it can be more comfortable to talk about conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and other memory loss disorders in the familiar environment of a place of worship. During these events, places of worship create a space for their members to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, to learn about prevention and risk reduction strategies, to learn early warning signs of memory loss and why early diagnosis is important, and even get screened for early memory changes.
In honor of the Alzheimer’s Association Purple Sunday movement, our brain health team will be hosting Purple Saturday and Sunday events at places of worship across the District throughout the month of June.
