Adding the Institute to Faculty Grant Proposals

Faculty affiliated with the GW Institute for Dementia are welcome to add the paragraph below to the Facilities section of their NIH grant proposals (or similar sections for other proposals):

The GW Institute for Brain Health and Dementia brings together faculty from across GW with an interest in adult cognitive health specifically related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  The Institute is co-led by Director Dr. Melinda Power and Clinical Director Dr. Christina Prather. Its membership draws from multiple schools at GW, including the Milken Institute School of Public Health, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and School of Nursing.  The Institute aims to promote and support research on cognitive health that will meaningfully impact the lives of those living with adult-onset cognitive loss, through promotion of brain health, prevention of cognitive loss, and addressing health disparities to improve the quality of life of persons living with dementia and their care partners.  Through its activities, the Institute provides a forum for faculty to discuss and collaborate on research, mentor emerging researchers in the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias field, and facilitate connections with external partners on clinical and public health research related to aging brain health and dementia.  Institute activities include seminar series, networking events, community outreach and education, training events, and faculty mentoring.  The GW Institute for Brain Health and Dementia is committed to the development of future researchers interested in dementia and brain health research through education, sponsored projects, seminars, and opportunities to work with faculty on projects that will help to advance their career goals.

Working with MPH Students for Faculty Research Projects

There are multiple ways that faculty members can involve MPH students in their research projects, with varying levels of involvement. For more information, please download this guide.

Soliciting Students for Faculty Research Projects

Faculty are welcome to email brainhealth@gwu.edu to solicit Milken Institute School of Public Health students who are looking for practicum and culminating experience sites.

Faculty Research Proposals for medical students are still open. There is no deadline on the website and students will contact faculty members to gain additional details after the proposal is posted. Students often use these proposals as jumping-off points for their WT Gill, Health Services, or other fellowship applications. Proposals can be submitted here: https://smhs.gwu.edu/research/research-workforce/medical-student-research/faculty-research-proposals
