Our Institute in the Community

Community Presentation with Arlington County

The Institute was invited to deliver a community presentation on brain health as part of Arlington County's programming for older adults. On February 2, 2022, Institute member Antonio Puente, PhD, gave a presentation titled, "Brain Aging: What is Normal Aging & Healthy Brain Behaviors?". He explained the difference between normal memory loss, such as occasionally misplacing things, and memory loss that is cause for concern, like getting lost in familiar places. Dr. Puente also went over what happens during a memory loss exam, as well as the difference between the various types of dementia. The presentation concluded with actions that we can take to promote brain health, like getting enough physical activity, eating the right foods, and volunteering or learning new hobbies to stay socially and cognitively engaged.
